PerfectRegistry is a Registry maintenance program used to tune-up your Registry. A more
organized and error-free Registry can have a big impact on the system's performance. PerfectRegistry is designed to clean up
your Registry of all invalid and obsolete entries that accumulate with regular usage, in a very smart and effective
manner.
Why does Registry need optimization?
The Registry is the Windows database that contains all the information regarding the applications installed on the system including the
operating system settings. The Registry is comprised of keys and values. Each key can have many sub-keys and each
sub-key can also have many sub-keys. The structure is hierarchical which is similar to the directories that exist on a system. Values
are the actual information stored in each key and sub-key.
Obsolete and unwanted Registry entries start filling the Registry during regular system usage. Many times a new application will be
installed and then uninstalled later, leaving remnants behind. While the files are deleted, a blank Registry entry may still
be reflected. These invalid and out-of-use entries fill the Registry, making it larger and thus adversely affecting system access
and response times. The result is an overall deterioration in system performance.
The Registry also addresses the issue of fragmentation. Random deletions and un-installs leave empty blocks in
the Registry and these blank entries can hamper the smooth functioning of Windows possibly resulting in application crashes, system
slowdown, unwanted prompts, system hangs, and under-performance.
How can PerfectRegistry help?
The Windows built-in tool is called Registry Editor. Before using this complicated tool, it is recommended to be highly
registry knowledgeable as any changes or deletions done without having a complete understanding of the Registry can be very dangerous for your system.
PerfectRegistry is a less cumbersome more technically advanced software used to bring out the best of your system which may become
worn out over time. PerfectRegistry promises practical performance improvements without deception.

What are the reasons for corruption in the Registry?
The Registry is the central database of the system. The Registry becomes fragmented when a user deletes or un-installs
programs leaving small empty blocks in the form of blank and invalid Registry entries. These entries are not
automatically removed and remain in the Registry unless removed. They can interrupt proper functioning of
the system and degrade the system performance. These unwanted and invalid Registry entries keep accumulating and may
corrupt the Registry.
What does PerfectRegistry do?
PerfectRegistry analytically scans through the Registry and identifies the invalid Registry entries. After the scan is
complete, the scan results are displayed. You can then select and remove any entries at your discretion.
Before the cleaning is final, PerfectRegistry creates a back-up of the Registry. This back-up will allow you to revert back
to its previous Registry state in the case important data was inadvertently deleted. PerfectRegistry is one of the safest and
` most dependable ways to optimize your Registry.

The new interface of PerfectRegistry is designed to ensure ease of use. The main screen now includes sections for Registry scanning, error reporting, and a system Registry health assessment.
It tells you the number of Registry errors found on the previous scan.
PerfectRegistry comes with an advanced Registry cleaning and optimization tool. Upon clicking the ‘Start Registry Scan' button, the program begins scanning the system for any errors that may be causing your system performance issues.
The main screen includes:
This section of the program provides details of the Last Scan time, the number of errors found and the recommended action. It also includes a graphic representation of the status of the Registry. The status represents the level of damage to the Registry - Low is good, High is poor.
The first step in using this program is to Scan the Registry for errors. Click the ‘Start Registry Scan’ button to start the scanning process. This activates the Scan Registry screen. It scans the Registry for errors such as System related errors, Com and ActiveX errors, User related errors and Startup and Uninstall errors.
Scan and Fix Registry Errors
During regular usage of the system, the Registry will begin to hold data that is no longer valid. Such information points to a location on the hard drive where a file previously existed.
There may be several reasons behind these invalid Registry entries. One such reason is because the programs uninstalled do not remove their Registry entries completely or, the programs were not correctly uninstalled etc. These invalid entries eventually begin to clutter the Registry, slowing Windows down and causing other performance issues.
Invalid links are common in the system Registry. It is always a good practice to regularly clean them. The Scan Registry section will scan the Registry finding these invalid data references.
Start the process by selecting Start Scanning Now. By default, all the areas prone to Registry errors are selected.
During the scanning process you will notice the Registry keys being analyzed. At any time you can abort the scan process by clicking the Stop Scan button.
Once the scanning process has finished, the program will display the results window which summarizes all the Registry categories scanned and the total errors found under each category. The problems found are divided into various categories so you can easily recognize the problems under each category.
Scan Results display under each category. Each category is divided into sub-categories that can be viewed by clicking on the small triangular button next to the category name. At the bottom left corner of this screen the Error Details option is linked to a new window that details each and every error found under that category. The entries in the new window describe the name of the invalid reference and the path/location referring to it. By default, these invalid Registry entries are selected for repair. Uncheck the box to unselect the entries that you do not want to be repaired. Please note, any entry unselected may impact the final result of the cleaning and the overall system performance boost.
Right-click menu options on the error detail window:
-
Unselect this: The program has the provision to exclude any particular entry from being deleted by un-checking the box next to it.
-
Select All: Use this option to exclude/include the entries in the list to be deleted. To select all entries, check this box and to unselect all entries, uncheck it.
-
Invert Selection: Another feature you have with right-click is to invert the current selection i.e. all the checked items will get unchecked and the unchecked items will get checked to be deleted.
-
Go to Key: Of all the various options available with right-click, you can check the authenticity of the data presented as valid or not. With the "Go to Key" you can open the Key mentioned with the Registry Editor. We strongly discourage making manual changes to the Registry.
-
Copy Description: The name and description of the selected entry can be copied and pasted to another location or file.
-
Add to Ignore List: Use this option to exclude the entries from the list to be deleted and add them to an exclusion list. This will prevent them from appearing as errors in future scans.
Before fixing problem entries you can review them individually. If you find any entry to be excluded from the list of invalid entries, uncheck the box associated with it. It is advisable to be extremely careful when manually changing the Registry entries. If the list of corrupt entries is more, you can scroll-down the bar to view all the entries in the list or opt to maximize the window.
Click on Fix Errors starts the removal of invalid Registry entries. This process will increase system performance and provide a more stable computer environment.
The Registry plays a key role in the configuration and control of the Windows operating systems. It is the repository for both system wide and per-user settings. The data in the Registry is stored in hundreds of keys and sub-keys. Windows and programs query the Registry for information constantly. With passing time, as programs are used, installed and uninstalled, data is scattered all over the Registry with numerous free blocks in between. Think of the Registry database as a chart with rows and columns on a big sheet. Even when the data is deleted from a Registry block, it still maintains a reference to the next Registry block consuming the same amount of space that it occupied before. When new items are added to the Registry, they are added at the bottom of the chart. So over time, the Registry ends up with a lot of blank cells. If any of these blank Registry blocks become corrupt, it may pass invalid information to the calling program causing a system to halt and slowdowns or can even a system crash to occur.
Querying a Registry with fewer entries is faster. Furthermore, optimizing the Registry makes the load time shorter.
How to optimize the Registry?
PerfectRegistry compacts
the system Registry to improve performance of your computer.
PerfectRegistry eliminates Registry fragmentation, giving you
a fresh new Registry with no redolent or obsolete data. For optimization of
the Registry go to the Optimize Registry tab. Information will be displayed
about your last Registry optimization - if one has been performed and if so when. To begin the optimization process, click the Optimize Registry Now button.
A confirmation box will appear once you begin the optimization process. This box warns the user that the computer will restart automatically once the optimization process is complete. Please note, you should close all open documents and applications before committing to the optimization process as the system will restart once the process is complete and you may lose any unsaved data. Click on Yes to start the optimization process. When the process starts, a progress indicator bar will appear as shown in the image below. Once the optimization process is complete, your computer will automatically restart to establish the changes.
PerfectRegistry has been designed in such a manner making
it absolutely safe to clean and optimize the Registry. In the rare case that you believe
cleaning the Registry has caused your system or any installed programs to peform poorly, you can use the "Restore" function to revert your computer to the state of its last known configuration. The Restore function will help you to get back to your previous Registry stage possibly resolving any issues you have encountered.
In the Backup and Restore Registry section you can make backups in couple of ways:
Complete Registry backups can be taken manually by clicking the Take Full
Registry Backup button. However, when implementing One Click Optimization on the main screen, a complete Registry backup is automatically taken before any other actions are implemented.
Whenever you scan and clean the Registry manually, after selecting the necessary
Registry categories, the program automatically makes a backup of these categories
before removing their invalid entries. This may prove essential should you need
to restore entries of such categories.
In the Partial Backup section, the backups are
maintained by dates i.e. they are always categorized under the headings: Today,
This Week, This Month, This Year, and Last Year.
Simply select a backup record from the Full
Backups or Partial Backups section and press Restore. The
Registry entries from the chosen date and time will be restored. If this section is filled
with obsolete backup data, you may delete them and keep only the ones required.
Settings of PerfectRegistry
PerfectRegistry allows you to configure settings to best suit your needs for optimum performance. The tabbed sections are mentioned below:
By default all Registry areas are selected for scanning; however, you can select/unselect an option by checking/unchecking the mark against it and clicking on the Apply button. Pressing the Restore Defaults button will include all the Registry areas in scanning.
PerfectRegistry scans the below mentioned areas in the Registry for errors. It is divided in 4 major categories:
System related errors: For system related errors PerfectRegistry scans following area:
-
Application Paths: A program when installed, maintains a reference to the path at which it is installed, including the file name on the Registry. If the Application Path information is not correct in the Registry, it may cause programs to fail to start. An invalid path on the Registry could arise when uninstalled programs do not remove their referential Registries or if the physical location of a program has changed.
-
Fonts: It is often seen that applications, especially word processing applications, generate errors or crash due to corrupt fonts or invalid fonts entries. Invalid Font entries occur when a reference to the font is present in the Registry but the font file is missing.
-
Help Files: When a program is installed it makes entries relating to the help files associated with it in the Registry. When this help file is deleted or moved from the folder where it was originally installed, it results in an invalid Registry reference. This is the last thing you would want - an application to crash when you are looking for help.
-
Shared Files: Registry includes paths of files and program libraries (dlls) that are used by various programs. If these files are moved or deleted, it would result in invalid Registry paths.
-
Deep Scan: This scans everything in your HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Registry hive and will catch more errors than other scan types. The downside is that it takes longer to complete the scanning process.
Com and ActiveX errors: For Com and ActiveX errors PerfectRegistry scans following area:
-
ActiveX and COM: An ActiveX control is a component program object that has a set of rules for how programs should share information. ActiveX and COM components are installed on the system when you browse the Internet or install any application. These entries increase the size of the Registry and may interfere with the performance of some programs. Invalid COM or ActiveX object entries in the Windows Registry can cause application failures, document and information loss, and system crashes.
-
File Types: There are many programs installed on a computer and each has a relevant files type associated with it. Invalid File Type entries occur when some file extensions refer to programs that no longer exist on a computer.
User related errors: For User related errors PerfectRegistry scans following area:
-
History Lists: Windows maintains Registry entries of all the files recently opened on your machine. These Registry entries contain paths to those files. If the file is moved from that location or is deleted, this Registry entry will show an invalid reference. Hence, with time the number of such orphan Registy entries can accumulate on your system.
-
Shortcuts: There are some shortcuts that point to invalid targets. The shortcut file refers to such file paths that do not exist on your computer.
-
Sounds: These are errors related to sound files on a system. These sounds are played when certain events happen on the system like login or log off. There may be entries in the Registry that point to sound files which no longer exist.
-
Current User: This option scans for errors in HKEY_CURRENT_USER sub tree that contains the profile of the user who is currently logged on to the computer. The user profile includes environment variables, personal program groups, desktop settings, network connections, printers, and application preferences.
Startup and Uninstall errors: For Startup and Uninstall errors, PerfectRegistry scans the following areas:
-
Start Menu: The Start Menu provides quick access to programs. If we remove or move the program from its original location or move the Start Menu folder, this will result in an invalid Registry entry.
-
Startup Programs: There may be some programs which are scheduled to be launched upon Windows startup; but have been removed. These removed programs may result in invalid Registry entries.
-
Add Remove Programs: A program, when installed, creates its entries on the Registry depicting various information and configuration settings. Along with this it also creates entries on uninstall in a special area in the Registry. When the program is uninstalled it should remove all the entries it created under the software or uninstall sections; however, often times programs fail to do so and leave behind garbage entries.
PerfectRegistry has a
section to create an Exclusion List. If you want to exclude a path from
Registry scanning, you can add that path into this Exclusion List. Remember if
invalid Registry entries are created under the path excluded by you,
PerfectRegistry will not be able track those registries
and the sole purpose of optimizing your system Registry will fail. Therefore,
you should be extremely when excluding Registries.
For excluding a Registry, you need to click Add Entry and select the section
that you want to add in the exclusion list. The drop-down list provides the name of the hives.
To be more specific, mention the complete path of the Registry key in the next box given, Specify
Registry Entry. Press OK to add it to exclusions. You can even delete
an entry from the exclusion list by selecting the entry and clicking the Delete Entry button.
Skip errors due to removable media: When
you install removable drives, Registry entries are created. When the
drive is removed, Registry references will become invalid as they will link to the
drive not found on your system. However, if you plan to attach the same drive again,
we suggest the you do not delete such Registry errors because in such a case you may have
to reinstall the drivers for the removable drive. Simply, check the option to skip Registry
errors displayed in such condition.

It is always essential to take proper care while working with the system Registry. Regular use of your computer, installation and un-installation of programs all leave traces in the Registry. These traces gradually accumulate in the Registry with unwanted data which may cause issues with your system's performance. Therefore, we suggest that a novice should not update or delete any Registry entries.
You have PerfectRegistry a tool that resolves invalid entries found in the Registry. Although PerfectRegistry uses a high degree of safety measures in the removal of invalid entries, we strongly recommend that you take proper care before removing any entry from the Registry. When the scan is complete, PerfectRegistry displays a list of invalid entries which affect the normal performance of your system. These invalid entries can be cross checked by right-clicking on it and choosing the Go To Key option.
This will open the Registry editor and will take you to the key which is invalid. It is suggested that you check the Windows Registry using this method before removing an entry from the results section.
